Auditioning
is easy fun and rewarding way to get involved in the Revels as a singer/performer or a volunteer.
Auditions for the Christmas Revels chorus are held in September each year. Sight reading skills are not required, however you must be able to carry a part against other singers while moving and acting on stage. Plan on no more than 5 minutes to strut your stuff. Prepare an a cappella piece- folk song, early music, Handel, Purcell, for instance, or traditional musical theater. If you are interested in an acting role, prepare a one minute monologue and/or be ready to do a "cold reading"
Dates:
September 13 and 14, 6 to 10 PM
Ripley Grier Studios, 530 8th Ave, 16th Fl
To be part of this year's Revels, you must audition
Auditioning for:
Adult chorus
Teen chorus
Children's chorus
Soloists: SATB
Dancers: Dancers for German Schuhplattler and morris/sword dancing
Speaking roles:
St. Nicholaus: the original Germanic Santa Claus; the narrator who takes
us through the show; a large man but not necessarily as overweight as our Santa
Claus.
Knecht Rupprecht: St. Nicholaus' 'helper'--he deals with the bad
children and puts coal in their stockings; more elfish than evil; can be a
pants role.
NOTE: our intention is to pull the following speaking roles from
the chorus
Frau Hoelle: a no-nonsense middle-aged woman.
Herr Staberl, Herr Dummkopf, & Herr Stachelswein: essentially the
Three Stooges.
Hans Wurst: youthful hero.
Fafner: the dragon; can be male or female.
Dr. Thaddadl: a German psychiatrist with a sense of slap-stick; (Groucho) can be a
pants role.
Audition Prep
Come prepared to sing a song of your choice a cappella. Choose a folksong, hymn,
show tune or any other song you are comfortable singing. If you wish to
audition for an acting role, you will be asked to read a passage from the
script. Children are welcome to sing any children's song they wish.
